According to UNEP experts, human behavior has had a heavy impact on the oceans, water, biodiversity, atmosphere, land, and soil, but also on human health. Our Mother Earth is clearly crying out for help. To help reduce this impact, in my own small way, I start in the morning while brushing my teeth. And you?
Many people interested in the environment and sustainability have probably seen the Netflix documentary "Seaspiracy" that was released a few weeks ago. I don't know about you, but this documentary makes me feel so powerless that my daily efforts seem useless. We need a radical change. In my opinion, educating people and opening their eyes is already a first step towards change. I thought everyone knew about the environmental problems that we humans have caused ourselves. About the oil problem, water, glacier melting, extinction of animal species, ocean, plastic, and so on. But it's not like that.
And that's why activities like Earth Day are so important. April 22 marks Earth Day, created in 1970 with the aim of promoting the conservation of our planet's natural resources. Starting from the principle that every human being has the right to live in a healthy and sustainable environment, events have been organized on this day since 1970 to raise awareness among the world's citizens about climate change and human impact on our planet. According to UNEP experts, human behavior has had a heavy impact on the oceans, water, biodiversity, atmosphere, land, and soil, but also on human health. Our Mother Earth is clearly crying out for help. Nature is suffering. Devastating fires in Australia, record temperatures, melting glaciers and ice caps, and catastrophic climate events. And now we are facing a global health pandemic, COVID-19.
It's time to reverse the trend. And this starts with daily choices in our homes, in our cities, and in our countries.
