Toothpaste for pimples?

Hello Brusher!

Do you have a date tonight? Or an important presentation? Well, it's a shame that right now you have a red bump on your forehead that will turn into a sparkling unicorn by tomorrow morning. But thank goodness there is a guide for everything: the internet! Here, at the top of the list of home remedies for pimples you find toothpaste.

Actually, it won't be like that. Because especially on the internet, the recommended search results usually show exactly what we want to show you here: toothpaste does not help against pimples.

What are the arguments in favor of toothpaste?

First of all, we would like to state once again: toothpaste is not suitable in the fight against pimples.

At first glance, the use of toothpaste seems to make sense: it has an antiseptic effect. This means that some ingredients inhibit the multiplication of bacteria. For example, many toothpastes contain zinc, which is also an active ingredient in many acne remedies.

Furthermore, toothpaste dries out the skin. Consequently, this could have a slowing effect on the further growth of the pimple.

But how simple the world would be if it weren't for the beautiful word BUT.

What are the arguments against toothpaste?

As you have noticed, the pros of toothpaste for pimples are rather limited. We can give you the most important argument right here: we call it TOOTH-paste because the product is specifically recommended for teeth. We should limit its use to our teeth.

But we will explain again here what makes toothpaste toothpaste - and why it is not suitable for pimples.

The most important argument is its active ingredients. Even though toothpaste has an antiseptic and antibacterial effect, it also contains ingredients that have exactly the opposite effect on the skin. Sorbitol, fluoride, and menthol irritate the skin and can lead to skin inflammation - so actually exactly the opposite of what we want.

When toothpaste is advertised as an emergency solution against pimples, it comes with the instruction to "let it act" overnight. It sounds reasonable, but it has a devastating effect. Because pimples empty outwards over time. If the toothpaste is applied and not removed, this is no longer possible.
