Quando si cambia lo spazzolino da denti?

When should you change your toothbrush?

Let's put it this way: Every 3-4 months is to be understood as a reference, provided you brush your teeth at least twice a day as you should.

Hello Brusher,

our business has specialized in oral hygiene and sustainability. So it's quite obvious that we often talk about sustainable oral hygiene. And we do it here too: in fact, we are talking again about dental hygiene; and we provide an answer to a question that I am often asked – or maybe not. But let's proceed.

How often should you replace your toothbrush?

Here is yet another existential question for which we turn to our dedicated experts to support us in this particular situation of our daily life: our dentists.

They recommend replacing the toothbrush every 3-4 months. And why?

Let's put it this way: Every 3-4 months is to be understood as a reference, provided you brush your teeth at least twice a day as you should.

Staying within this time frame ensures that

  1. your toothbrush meets the hygiene standards that a toothbrush, in fact, must meet
  2. a worn-out toothbrush, which has already been through a lot in your oral cavity and no longer has the desired cleaning effect, is replaced at the right time.

What indicates that it's time to change the toothbrush?

  1. When the bristles are evidently worn out

Splits, loss of shape – what indicates an imminent visit to the hairdresser also indicates an imminent replacement of the toothbrush. If the bristles stick out and look a bit frayed, then it's time for a new toothbrush. The bristles can no longer remove plaque efficiently. My faithful blog readers all know the consequences: oral diseases like cavities or gingivitis.

  1. After being sick

If you have been sick for a while, then it's time to get rid of the dental broom after you have recovered. If you only have one bathroom with a single toothbrush holder, a general review of its contents is necessary. This means that not only your toothbrush has to go, but also those of others who have shared the toothbrush holder with yours. Don't forget to clean the toothbrush holder well.

  1. After 3-4 months

The bristles of your toothbrush are a paradise for germs, bacteria, and viruses. Even if you haven't been sick, there are other types of pathogens that find fertile ground among the bristles. This is another reason why we recommend changing the toothbrush after a few months to protect your oral health.
